More High School Tidbits from Tuesday May 13th, 2008

Congratulations to Larry Kidd and the Brookville Bees softball team. The Bees have clinched a spot in the Region III tournament as a result of winning the Seminole District. The Bees will recieve a bye in the Seminole quarterfinals and will play their first tournament game in the semifinals next week.

Tonight, the trials of the Seminole District track meet were held at Brookville High School. The finals have been moved up to tomorrow with the threat of rain imminent. Check the results here www.bhsbees.com/district_track_meet_5_13_08.htm

Jared Bolden (E.C. Glass) went 0 for 4 tonight, as VCU lost to Liberty, 10-3. Steven Evans (Amherst) pitched a scoreless 9th, striking out two Rams.

Starting Friday in Knoxville, a few former Lynchburg-Roanoke area pitchers will take to the field in the NCAA Softball Tournament. Cari Wooldridge (Liberty-Bedford) and Winthrop (36-17) will open up with the host and number 13 seed, Tennessee Volunteers (47-14). Also, Angela Tincher (James River-Buchanan) and the Virginia Tech Hokies (44-15) will take on the Louisville Cardinals (30-21). The regional is double elimination with the winner going to the Super Regional.

Dara Sandifer (Holy Cross) and the Lynchburg College Hornets have advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series in Salem this weekend. LC (39-6) opens up with Muskingum, out of Ohio. Muskingum is 40-10.

The Division III baseball tournament begins tomorrow, with Lynchburg College (30-11), Randolph Macon (25-15) and Christopher Newport (28-12) all playing in Danville. The Hornets take the field at 7:00, taking on Piedmont College (33-12). The Hornets boast several local standouts including ODAC Player of the Year, Ronnie Labrie (Staunton River), as well as former Heritage Pioneers, Cameron Grant, Jeff Taylor, Jon Crews and D.W. Morre. Pitchers Matt Morgan and Rich Glover represent Liberty (Bedford). Keith Yancey and Justin Ferrell are both products of the Randolph Henry Statesmen. David Gaines, Jared Millner and Ryan Litz all represent the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers. Kyle Bradley is a William Campbell alumnus. Finally, Cave Spring boasts senior Matthew Winston.
