Liberty-Rockbridge Boys BB Game Moved

Liberty and Rockbridge County will play tomorrow night at 7:00. However, instead of playing at Robert E. Lee, that game has been moved to Staunton River High School.

Region Recaps from Monday Night

Regional play got underway in Double A Region 3 on Monday night in the girls and boys basketball tournaments.


The Brookville Bees girls basketball team knocked off Waynesboro 55-28. The Bees will now meet Robert E. Lee tonight at Northside in a doubleheader that includes Rustburg meeting up with Northside. Chris Lassiter of the News Leader in Staunton covered the Little Giants loss. Rustburg defeated Fort Defiance on Monday night by the score of 51-43. Rustburg, comes in red hot as the Seminole District tournament winners, by defeating E.C. Glass in the Seminole District final. Once again, Rustburg meets Northside, who knocked off Staunton River in the Blue Ridge tournament, before losing to Lord Botetourt in the Blue Ridge final. Robert Sisk covered the Rustburg win for the Media General newspapers with his report of the Red Devils win.


On the boys side, E.C. Glass knocked off William Byrd in the AA Divison 4 first round matchup. Glass meets up with Spotswood in the Region III Div 4 quarterfinal on Wednesday. In the other matchup last night from Region III, Division 4, Broadway knocked off Staunton River 70-54. Broadway will play Heritage in another game at Spotswood on Wednesday night.

Region B Tournaments Begin Tonight

The boys take the court tonight in the Group A, Divison 1 or Division 2. Here are the matchups for Region B Division 1

(8) Buffalo Gap at (1) Madison County
- Buffalo Gap won the tiebreaker over Nelson County by having the better overall record. Madison County also held that same edge in the tiebreaker over Page County.

(7) William Campbell at (2) Page County

(6) Amelia at (3) Altavista

(5) Cumberland at (4) Luray

In Division 2 , the matchups are as follows.

- Randolph Henry secured the 7 seed over Strasburg by having a better overall record.

- This will be a 6:00 start time.

Tonight, the Dogwood District begins play with their boys and girls basketball tournaments. The girls were scheduled to get underway last night but they will get underway tonight. The pairings are as follows.

Altavista Boys Basketball Team to play William Campbell on Thursday afternoon in Cancer Awareness game

The Altavista Boys Basketball team will host a Cancer Awareness game Thursday February 4, 2010 during the contest with William Campbell. The JV game starts at 3:00 with the varsity game to follow. The team would like to have everyone wear the color that represents any cancer that has affected their life. The team and cheerleaders will be collecting donations and giving out different colored ribbons during the game. Some of the proceeds will go to Dante Erk, a seven year old, who has been living with cancer since he was two. All other proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Please come out and support the cause.
